Well, immediately, to control the economy. Ultimately, they want to be happy. Yes, it's true, even if they go about it in a twisted way. They just want pleasure in whatever their aim is...ruling, destroying, conquering... They want to be happy, but this is not the way. Too bad no one told them that as children.

You are absolutely right, Wee. There is no sense or reason behind it at all. xx

gosh, i just dont get it. but hate, harm and insanity will never make sense to me. i try to find a helpful perspective, but its so hard. it doesnt fit into my mind. its tragic to think people grow up thinking this behavior is helpful and powerful and even religious. its so very sad.

The thing is, they're human, with the same human frailties as we have. What did the Crusaders want? The answer to both is the same. They hate us for reasons I think we don't want to acknowledge or understand, and while the reason does not justify the action, it behooves us to frigging learn why and accept it, or we will never stop the violence or protect ourselves; you have to understand what lies in the heart of your attacker and what motivates him to act, or you get nowhere. A good book to read is "The Vision of Islam," by Sachiko Murata and William C. Chittick. I learned more in a few short pages of that book than all of any of the interviews and spin that came out of September 11. It amazes me none of our western leaders seem to have read *anything* on the subject, or we'd probably be a slightly less attractive target. :( kd
