May I suggest: Nina Simone - Turn Me On, Berlin - The Metro, Til Tuesday - Voices Carry, Alexi Murdoch - Orange Sky, Nick Drake - Northern Sky, Violent Femmes - Why Can't I get Just One More Kiss, Nick Drake - Hanging On A Star, Flogging Molly - What's Left of the Flag For Me, The Cars- My Best Friend's Girl, Electric 6- Danger! High Voltage........ some of it's mellow, some of it's upbeat. Just my .99 cents worth ;)

They called your HUSBAND? How sexist is that? Why didn't they call YOU? Hee hee! TMBG Istanbul ROCKS! You might try their "Birdhouse in Your Soul" too. :)

Once, in college, I made a neighbor angry by playing my music too loud (Nina, ironically) and he set up speakers against the wall and blasted "Birdhouse in Your Soul" for something like five hours. It wasn't until after the first hour that I "got" what he was doing. I will never listen to that song again.

To be fair, Liz, the Visa card is in his name. I'm a secondary cardholder. I do have my own Visa, but I only use it for work related charges. And Christmas presents.

I love the Pretenders' 2000 Miles, a perfect mixture of Christmassiness and poignant longing for a lost friend. And Istanbul (Not Constantinople) takes me right back - I love everything on TMBG's Flood album, it reminds me of my fresher year at university when a mad friend who lived on my landing would play the album non-stop. Check out Whistling In The Dark, it's such a funny song and the bit at the end where they chant 'whistling, whistling ... dark-dark-dark' cracks me up every time. Love and hugs x x x

Nothing says Christmas like Kirsty MacColl and Shane McGowan singing Fairytale of New York.....ooh and I kill to hear Siouxie's Hong Kong Garden. I must become more technologically savvy!

Okay, then, I'm mollified. :P

I've got Istanbul on my iTunes too! It is a scientific fact that you cannot listen to that song and not feel better afterwards.
