I know mine have saved me from myself more than a few times. Dogs are amazing. I don't know how I survived my first 23 years with out them! Even when I am at my most "unlovable" my big boy follows me all around the house with this look of PURE ADORATION in his eyes. My husband and I have had to sit him down and have a talk with him that WE are married and we know that he is in LOVE with me but I am taken. My little girl, however, tries to seduce my husband all the time... She is my protector though.

Dogs are wonderful, aren't they? Smelly, kinda dumb, but wonderful nonetheless. It was very fortunate that a random dog approached that guy before it was too late!

oh! what a heartwarming happy ending to something that could have been really awful! makes me want to go right over to my mom's and play with the hounds!

thanks. i am just discussing the merits of animal lovers and people who are ambivalent to animals. and combining the two, somewhat unsuccessfully. (there are funny poll results in one of yesterday's entries.) so your entry really hits home.

thanks for your guestbook entry; animals are intrinsic and i agree. also, aww, i couldn't help but update about the dog saving the day, too. but mine is bittersweet, my family is sad because we just lost our buddy. :(

Thanks so much for the story and that incredible photo of Finnegan. I know I've said this so many times before, but she looks so much like my childhood best friend that I get all slobbery and can't stop gazing into that digital face. Those eyes. Those eyeLASHES! Such a beauty and a big shiny black pile of flove...you know that word...it's one we can feel more surely than lots of others. :) Yep, she gets me right there.

Ok Mel, you've officially creeped me out. Did I, or did I not, say the following on Tuesday, June 22, "It is amazing how a puppy can be such a universal pick-me-up for even the most miserable person. I've met more strangers in the past 2 months than I ever have in such a short period of time. Maggie could bring a smile to the face of almost anyone. Even today when we went through the drive-in at McDonald's, the usually bitter window girl piped up a smile and said, "Awww, she's so cute! What a pretty girl." There's just something about Maggie. It's nice to know that people do have that spark of warmth in them somewhere, even if they disguise it during the busy hours of the daily grind." (Answer: Yes, Kate, you did.) And this angel dog encounter occurred up your way the Very Next Day. (That dog had to be sent by someone, it couldn't just be coincidence). Can you imagine how freaked out you'd be if it was YOU walking FINNY and Finn changed a mass-murderer's mind? I'd never believe it without reading it in the news. It's one of those things that gives me goosebumps. One of those, "someone is watching us" things. Hold me!

Look Wee! There's a photo up of the angel dog today! http://www.canada.com/national/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=1a38cc23-83cb-4ee2-859f-1882e2e9985f

Simply amazing!

So wonderful-- see how Canada is AGAIN better than the US? Our headline animal story is Gov of California Schwarzenegger trying to change the law so that animal shleters kill animals after only 72 hours!! instead of the six days the law now requires. Let's deluge him with hate mail. here's the link http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=2026&ncid=2026&e=1&u=/latimests/20040625/ts_latimes/governorwantstorepeallawfavoringpetadoption

Consider my heart cockles officially warmed. :)

okay, it is truly weird that Finny Jane looks a whole lot like my sweet dog Velcro. Except that Velcro has a LOT less hair since he got his summer buzz cut. Hooray for our very cute dogs!
