Melanie, I just tripped upon your site after seeing your comment in Lopie's journal. Wasn't I delighted to find a penguin topping your page! Then, I read this post of yours and thought, "wow, that's exactly what I'm going through." Trying to find my style. Or define my style. Or, become my style. It is hard. Especially when I've been paid to emulate other people's styles for a few years. Who was I again? But I do love the painting you posted, and oddly enough, I have a painting with a boy and a telescope too. But it is very different. And what makes yours different from mine, is most definitely "style." It's the way you see something in your mind's eye that comes out when you work in a genuine, unforced way, versus the way it comes out of my mind's eye. At least, that's what I think so far. I'll let you know if I ever really figure it out. Love the penguin!
