Oh, to mother like your mother mothered! What I do comes from the same place, I suppose. The work interspersed with laundry, the cookies and the breads, the deadlines and the toga-making and the homework and the soccer snacks and schedules, the horseback riding, the taking extra assignments to pay for it all. The parties and the sleepovers, teaching them to ride bikes and pushing down the gnawing, clawing feeling as they have learned well and want to venture away from me on two wheels with a mere layer of hard-packed styrofoam strapped to their melons... You are an amazing observer of mothers and children. It is mind-boggling to think about all that mothering is, but you just do it, you just find a way, I suppose. I hope you shared your post with your mom. It touched me and made me want to be like her.

If you had a great mother, then you are likely to be a great mother just because you learned from her. How nice to be surrounded by wonderful women in your neighborhood. And, of course, I just love your writing.
