I just read that same article in EW today...(okay, I'm a little behind on my issues...but I caught up today at the beach.) I'm not a regular viewer of the GG, but do catch the occasional rerun when the boyfriend's not home (too girly-yakky for him...which is, of course, why I like it.) Robert Rodriguez is GENIUS, so hopefully "Sin City" will be great. Cute dinosaur illo. :)

Oh Martha's expression is priceless. Though, she looks more interested in eating her viewers for dinner, rather than that cake! EEEEEE!

oh but wee you taunt me so. it is only thursday . . . no friday yet, no weekend yet, and i have the worst of my winter doldrums at this moment. i am feeling too lazy to even leave my office to go home. maybe i should seek some choco covered blueberries. would i find them in my grocer's freezer?

salmon - 2005-03-10 18:05:17
okay i just looked at DRAWN and went to their first link and then a few more clicks and then this made me snort out loud. http://www.spamusement.com/view.php?id=205 i'm still laughing as i write this. once again, you HAVE cheered me! i can go home and drink red wine now.

Martha does look quite hungry to eat more than just the cake! Love the words that go along with it, makes me laugh.

violetismycolor - 2005-03-10 19:44:31
okay Wee...so just how do you make a scary, maneating dinosaur look cute, anyhow? This is so fabulous!

wee - 2005-03-10 20:14:23
Ah shucks, Thank you! And Violet...It's the pearls. Just deck 'em out in pearls and attach a few false eyelashes. Never fails. But if it does.... try lots and lots of practice.

Martha was such a delightful surprise as I was browsing illustrations. I've never seen such a flirty dinosaur and wearing a party hat to boot -- wonderful.

Liselotte - 2005-03-11 06:31:07
I just LOVE this one - what a beauty ;-) It made me laugh, and that's something I enjoy doing, so thank you and have a nice weekend...

Okay, first, you owe me a new keyboard. Mine got showered with coffee while reading about the Alterna-Star's Hollow and now the keys are all sticky. Second, I am in love with that illustration. You are amazing.

Michele Melcher - 2005-03-11 10:26:33
Where's Arthur? Did Martha eat Arthur?

jenny - 2005-03-11 13:57:49

lizardek - 2005-03-11 14:50:32
There! You see? You did it again!! You rock. :) Also, are you talking about the Harry & David chocolate-covered blueberries? Because if you haven't tried their whole mix, girl, you are MISSING OUT. blueberries, raspberries, cherries and strawberries. I do believe life doesn't get any better than that. Well, that, and SPRING. xoxo

Bec - 2005-03-11 17:19:15
lol great illu, I love the caption.

You almost make me want to watch Gilmore Girls. I can very much appreciate the bizarro alterna-world nevertheless. Your dino is awesome. It reminds me vaguely of Marc Teague's dinos in How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight (with a very "wee" spin to it of course). What a fantastic career you have. And DRAWN is very absorbing. You know, the great thing about getting sucked into links like that is the visuals (natch) - but what I'm trying to say (badly) is that I envy your absorption in and study of other art, and that were I to do the same thing relevant to my career, I'd end up reading pages and pages and pages of text, and it's so time consuming and feels so much like hooky. I think you can justify it more. Because looking is part of the job, yo. Reading too much good crap makes my head dizzy. I read and enjoyed your post yesterday but had not commented because aliens stole my brain. I shall endeavor to do so (but fully realize your world will not come to an end if I do not) soonly. Ed Emberly made me laugh. My daughter has several of his books we have picked up at thrift shops over the years, and she pored over them endlessly. I think we have four. If this comment makes no sense at all, it's because I've been interrupted 843 times by children needing toys freed up from their "let's launch this into the stratosphere" packaging and various phone calls from anguished citizens. Have a great wee-kend!!

Yes, yes, and more yes. I am very exited, and exaclty when did Robert Rodriguez morph from Blade guy, to awesome genius comic book adaptation guy? Plus, I am very hetero, but wow does that trailer with all the starlets whored up make me reconsider my affiliation. I can't wait to see our little Rory take a walk on the dirty side.

Jay - 2005-03-12 19:33:09
Love the drawing, love the anecdotes, love everything! Wow, it's like I'm on extacy or something.

doug - 2005-03-13 00:10:22
Oh WOW!! I didn't know you illustrated Dinosaurs!! And you worked at a museum too? ACES!! Not Alberta?! I did a few years of paleo illustration at University and my post graduate degree on Australian Dinos!! BRILLIANT!! Martha is super fantastic!! Do you have any others i could see?

Detlef - 2005-03-13 02:19:08
This dude certainly has a crusty old look to him....I know you are busy and all, but I'd like to see more illustration friday posts from you - they're always a treat.

beth maher - 2005-03-13 20:15:48
Whoops, getting my latino Hellboy directors mixed up with my latino SpyKids directors. Still mucho excited though.

um. ok first, michele is actually spelled michel (sorry to be so french about it but its true!) and then second, rory is in the new Bride and Prejuidice movie. She plays Darcy's sister. not a great role for her but whatever. Love Gilmore Girls! whoo!
